The 5 things families ask before booking

Whether you're a daughter coordinating a trip for your mom or a son planning a visit for your dad, here are the plain answers to the questions we hear most — about safety, scheduling, cost, and peace of mind.

Top 5 Family Objections for Peace of Mind

Every caregiver completes a criminal background check and sex-offender registry check before being approved. We also meet them in person, verify their senior-care experience, confirm CPR certification, and review their profile and available reviews. Your family makes the final choice; Journeys with Care never assigns a companion to your family.

Fit matters, so before you confirm a companion, you can share your parent’s routines, personality, and communication preferences with us. We’ll use that context to help you choose someone who feels like the right fit, and your family stays in control of the final decision. If something doesn’t feel right, contact Journeys with Care before the journey begins rather than forcing a poor match so we can talk through the next step.

Standard health insurance rarely covers travel companions, so most families pay out of pocket for companion care. Some long-term-care insurance policies or veterans benefits may offer relevant benefits, so check your policy and ask the provider what is covered. A caregiver’s business-liability insurance is separate from your family’s health coverage and does not determine whether your policy pays for companion care.

Your initial request takes about five minutes, with no commitment and no credit card required yet. After you share the trip details and care needs, a caregiver typically responds within 24–48 hours. The start date depends on the trip, the level of support your loved one needs, and caregiver availability, so we’ll confirm timing rather than promise immediate coverage.

If you cancel a scheduled visit or trip more than 14 days before it starts, you receive a full platform-fee refund minus processing fees; 7–14 days before it starts, the refund is 50%; within 7 days, there is no platform-fee refund. If a caregiver cancels, you receive a full refund and we offer alternative caregiver placement. Please review the Client Waiver and contact Journeys with Care promptly about a medical emergency or force-majeure situation so we can review the circumstances.
